BCP Teddies Reach Africa!

Categories: General News

A large number of children at Burnham Copse attend a knitting club, run by Mrs. Tessier, on a Monday lunchtime. When the children become more confident with knitting, they begin to make teddy bears that are to be sent to poor children in Africa.

The children have recently finished their bears and, as part of the KOP project, the bears were taken to the children in Africa, where they clung tightly to their new 'friends.'

Below is a copy of the email sent to Mrs Downes from the director of KOP.

Dear Lyn,

Please forgive the delay in sending any information or pictures for your school but it has been a very busy summer for us and I only returned from Kenya last weekend following our normal autumn process of examining annual programme outcomes and the development of our projects for next year.

All the teddies from Burnham Copse have been delivered and are being loved and cared for in the difficult circumstances that continue to exist around Kisumu.

Last week I saw a young child at Kochogo nutrition centre with a very torn and well worn T shirt, no shoes yet fiercely hugging on to his teddy bear, given to him in July. The toy was equally well worn and grubby but was clearly passionately loved and a rare possession that is a constant source of comfort to him. I sadly didn’t have my camera with me – it was a classic sight.

I attach a few pictures and a short extract of video That I hope you can receive and show to you pupils.

We really appreciate your support and are extremely grateful for the generous work of your knitting group. Please pass our very best wishes to all involved.

My very best regards,

Ted
