Healthy Schools

Information about Healthy School at Burnham Copse will be coming soon!

Burnham Copse has a number of new initiatives under way that come under the Healthy Schools category. The details of some of these, plus pictures, can be seen below.

Healthy Schools' Council

As part of the Healthy Schools initiative at Burnham Copse, each class has nominated two representatives who attend weekly meetings with Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Potts and selected guests. Each week the minutes from these meetings can be found on this page of the website.

Food Technology

The school is fortunate enough to have a separate room for cooking. This is used during curriculum time by the children to make food connected with their current topic. The children have made a variety of things such as Planet Cookies, Greek Salad and bread. We also run a cookery club, which is well attended by the children. Below are pictures of our cookery room as well as a glimpse of the garden we are currently developing.

Physical Activity

Burnham Copse offers a large number of opportunities for the children to get active. We run before and after school clubs as well as specialist coaches coming in during curriculum time. A full list of the clubs on offer is sent out to parents termly and can be seen on the website. Below are pictures of the Cycling Proficiency training currently running with Mrs. Trott.

Family Affair!

The children at Burnham Copse are put into family groups. Each group consists of at least one child from each year group. The school runs 'Family Days' where the children go from class to class in their family groups participating in a range of activities. The activities vary from sport to art and cooking to construction. Below are images of the children working during our last family day.

Quietest Table Award

Each week the lunch leaders look out for which table has been the quietest while eating their lunch in the lunch hall. This table then has the chance to invite a parent to sit and have lunch with them the following Wednesday. If their parents are unable to attend then the children are allowed to invite a member of staff to join them! During this time the children have the food technology room set up with a table cloth, posh glasses and flowers in the middle of the table. Below are the pictures from the first winners of the quietest table. Please check the galleries section for week by week updates of this award.

Dexters on the Common

As part of our links with the local community, the children of Burnham Copse were asked to bring in their coppers to raise money to buy another Dexter for the Tadley Common. A large amount of money was raised, which meant that we were able to contribute. Here is a picture of the Dexter we helped to bring to Tadley!
