Autumn Term First Half - All about Me
During this part of the term the children will be settling into the routines and expectations of school and finding their way around their new environment. Under our topic heading of 'All about Me', we will be talking about their families, discussing how the children have changed as they have become older and begin to explore their senses through practical, first hand experiences.
Autumn Term Second Half - All that Glitters
After the October half-term our topic will change to 'All that glitters'. We will be exploring and discussing different materials and finding lots of words to describe them. We will be finding out which materials work best for particular jobs. And then of course there is all the excitement of Christmas!
Spring Term First Half - Winter in the Park
During this first half of the spring term we will be looking at winter, especially in parks. Much of our learning will be based on Percy the Park Keeper. Our role play area will be Percy’s cottage. We will be making notices and posters to be displayed in the role play area.
We will be using the laptops in the classroom to develop mouse control by using the program ’Dress Teddy’ and using the keyboard to type in text.
We will visit local parks, looking at the trees in winter and exploring pushes and pulls on the playground equipment.
The children will be looking at non-fiction books and making their own non-fiction book.
Spring Term Second Half - Once Upon a Time
During this half term we will focus on a different traditional tale each week. We will be reading and re-telling different versions of the stories, exploring the characters and the settings. We will be encouraging the children to re-tell the stories in their own words using puppets and acting out the stories.
In science we will be exploring different materials. This will link to our art focus on textiles where the children will be sewing and weaving. In cookery we will be making gingerbread and porridge.
