Autumn Term First Half - All Around Us
During this term we will be looking at Tadley. We will look closely at the local environment, identfying different buildings and features. We will undertake visits into the local area, identiying local amenities and facilities. We will also be learning about our senses. We will use all our senses to find out all about the world around us.
Autumn Term Second Half - Sparks
During this term we will be undertaking lots of activities related to fire, fireworks, electricity and Christmas. We will look at a range of items that use electicity and identify things that use mains and battery power. We will also consider what life was like in the past without electricity.
We will find out about 'The Great Fire of London.' We will identify how the fire started and why it spread so quickly. We will compare life now and in the past, considering building materials, open fires and cooking. In science we will be making electrical circuits and identifying how they work.
Spring Term First Half - What's it made of?
During this topic we will be looking at different materials. We will name, describe and sort different materials. We will identify how different materials are manufactured and how they can be changed. Materials that can be recycled will be identified and the importance of recycling and re-using will be discussed.
We will look at different foods and identify ingredients used. The children will follow recipes, identifying how foods can be created and changed. We will look at different pizzas and design and create our own.
In art we will use a vareity of materials in various ways to create collages, creating different effects. In literacy we will be focusing on story telling and writing, thinking about the differnt parts needed. (beginning, middle, end, character, setting and plot)
Spring Term Second Half - Where am I?
During this topic we will be looking at different habitats. We will consider different habitats in the local area, followed by habitats found around the world. We will identify what places are like (jungles, polar regions, oceans, deserts) thinking about the weather, animals and plants. We will consider how animals and plants are suited to these habitats.
We will also consider life cycles and compare how plants and animals reproduce and develop. We are really looking forward to our trip to Laverstoke Park Farm.
In art we will look at the work of Henri Rousseau. We will use his work as inspiration for our own jungle pictures. We will use colour mixing skills to mix a variety of colours and a full range of greens!
